SEPTEMBER 16, 2017 – AROUSE announced its highest ABV “bum wine” to date, La Tangé, in a private investor and board meeting last Saturday, reporting alcohol content upwards of 160 proof. The previous record was held by 80 proof, apple and orange based Cisco, colloquially known as “Cisno”.

La Tangé, brainchild of in-house master distiller, Shaffer Wright, was inspired by his childhood. “La Croix and Tang were integral parts of some of the best days of my life. With La Tangé, those memories are brought into adulthood in a coming of age, or récit initiatique”, says Wright. Unlike previous house wines, Wright notes that La Tangé is made with simplicity, further drawing from childhood.

The La Tangé recipe is brought to you in an AROUSE exclusive:

INGREDIENTS

8 pounds white sugar
5 gallons La Croix (53 12oz. cans)
2 packets baking yeast
½ pound grape Tang

PREPARATION

1. Mix all ingredients in a sizable container, such as a large carboy or trash bag.

2. Let sit for 9 days, releasing gasses once each day.

3. Strain through a tea filter, then heat to 160° F for 5 minutes to remove methanol, preventing blindness. This may be done in smaller volumes to achieve a quicker heat time.

4. Place in freezer overnight, then remove ice at the top.

5. Bottle or age La Tangé and enjoy!

The status of home distilling is still illegal in most of the U.S. and violators may face charges of tax fraud, fined upwards of $10,000, and sentenced 5 years in jail. Shaffer Wright is a licensed distiller in Ohio and does not promote illegal distilling. AROUSE is not responsible for and advises against the consumption of La Tangé from other distillers or homebrewers.
